I came across this small quote from January while working on an art history piece, and I though you dolls might find it interesting.

Setting: Somewhere over the rainbow

Wherein Antony Hegarty, swooning frontman of Antony & the Johnsons, ponders Za Bakdaz and Nomi's legacy.

What are your favourite songs performed by Anthony outside Anthony & The Johnsons?

I've fallen in love with CocoRosie's "Beautiful Boyz" so much...

i feel sorry for whoever won this auction for $52, since you can still order it brand new direct from rebis for only $15, and without the exorbitant shipping costs. oh well.

aside from that, i've noticed that antony's stuff isn't fetching what it used to on ebay. it's funny how there's always a spike in value when an artist has a new album out; i remember prices were pretty much through the roof around the time "i am a bird now" was released. i guess if you have any rarities to sell, better wait until the end of the year when the new album comes out.

anyway, i like that he's been covering beyonce's "crazy in love" lately. i've never cared for the original but he transforms it into something uniquely his own. it's quite good. (you can hear it on my muxtape page if anyone's curious.)

I went to a gig in Brooklyn this past Tuesday to mark the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.  There were many many awesome performers and Antony was one of them.  He didn't sing much but he talked a LOT more than he did when I saw him at BAM a year ago.  I recorded him speak for a long time and if I can get it to upload, I will share it as well if you are interested.  He preformed You are my sister and dedicated it to the women in Iraq.  He cuts it off very short and read a letter from a solider.  I only got the last half of the song because I didn't realize my camera wasn't recording the first part (oops!) but I still hope you enjoy it.  I should warn you that it is also very dark because I was far in the back and my camera is old!
